project description

Trio project led by singer-songwriter Aimua Eghobamien with bassist Jerome Davies and drummer Rod Youngs. This latest innovative trio is devoted solely to performing standards in a way you’ve never heard them before. There is a definite conversation between these musicians.

“astute arrangements” the sunday times
Davies, with his organic love of instruments—he not only plays the bass, he builds and repairs them—shares his widely praised arranging and compositional skills for this programme. Artists Davies has worked with include Imelda May, Clare Teal, Salena Jones and Ronnie Scotts Big Band.

“swings and punctuates with a crisp grace that keeps the whole thing tight and to the point” jazzwise
Music OMH magazine describes Youngs—Washington DC native and London based drummer and composer—as “supremely subtle and melodic…dynamic and powerful”. Youngs is one of the most expressive and adept musicians in the music arena today. His approach to music is intuitive, emotional and all embracing but soundly rooted in traditional jazz. His work includes concerts, recordings, sessions for radio, TV and film. He has performed/recorded with a formidable array of artists including, Hugh Masekala, Lee Konitz, Jon Hendricks, Gil Scott-Heron, Natalie Cole and Julian Joseph.

lyrics

I feel like giving it all up to hell, I feel
nutty, analysts don’t have a cure

I think that I might begin to get well, I think
nutty, analysts are stomped for sure

I jump up looking for my muse on stage, I jump
nutty, they say it’s just a phase

well now the melodies and harmonies replay
nutty’s definitely here to stay, to stay

till now you had never left my arms
till now I had never suffered loss
I’ll see your space in bed next to me
your silent face won’t smile at me

the trees showing signs of winter’s breeze
and soon there’ll be nothing left to freeze
our special place will lose memories
as sun comes up harcourt nights
